THINGS TO KNOW

1. Due to the rising popularity of our games we now require you to pre-register if you want to compete for awards. This means that all entries for prize levels must be received by September 30, 2009. Day of event registration will be limited to Paws-at-Play tickets.

2. One registration form per dog/handler team. NO EXCEPTIONS!

3. Dogs may not compete in more than one prize level. Additional handlers may enter with the same dog as a separate team only within the same prize level.

4. All dogs MUST be currently vaccinated and licensed.

5. All dogs MUST be leashed except while participating in a fenced event. Failure to do so may lead to disqualification and a request to leave the event area.

6. Handlers MUST clean-up after their dog(s). Failure to do so may lead to disqualification from competition.

7. Dogs displaying aggression towards people or animals will be asked to leave the event site, with no refund of fees.

Please: Bring water and a water dish for your dog!

*~*~*~*~*~ RETURNING BY POPULAR DEMAND ~*~*~*~*~*

Paws at Play

For those who miss registration deadlines or just wish to play a few games again: we will be offering Paws at Play tickets. These tickets are valid at any game you wish to play except for the Marathon Down & Tidbit Catch. Dogs and handlers signed up for a competition level will run ahead of Paws at Play ticket holders so that awards tallying and presentation will not be delayed.

Games played with Paws at Play tickets will not be officially scored and will not be competing for awards and prizes.

Pentathlon Competition

Pre-registration is required. Entries for the pentathlon competition are limited!

A Pentathlete dog will be judged for each competitive level as follows:

1. Handler must indicate on the registration form if he/she is entering the pentathlon competition.
2. Pentathlete entrants must compete in at least one event in each of the following categories:

          Retrieve     Catch     Run     Obedience     Agility

3. Each dog’s best placement for each of the five categories will be added for a combined score.
4. The first, second and third lowest combined scores determine the Gold, Silver and Bronze winners.
5. In the event of a tie, the Best Trick category will be used to determine the winner.

Competition Events

Retrieve Events

Hot Dog Retrieve
An individually timed event. Dog leaves handler to retrieve a hot dog from a tub of water and returns to handler with or without eating the hot dog.

Newspaper Retrieve
An individually timed event. Points are awarded for each newspaper retrieved in 30 seconds.

Land Retrieve
Individually timed event. Dog is timed on how fast it can retrieve three individually thrown items. Items may be supplied by handler.

Water Retrieve
An individually timed event. Same as the Land Retrieve, only items are thrown into a child’s swimming pool. Dog must get at least both front feet in the water.

Run Events

25 Yard Dash
An individually timed event. Dogs are timed on return to handler 25 yards away. Dogs are divided into categories by size: up to 22", and over 22” at the withers (top of the shoulder).

Jump, Jump, Jump
An individually timed event. Dogs are timed on returning to the handler over three different kinds of jumps. Dogs are divided into categories by size: up to 22", and over 22” at the withers (top of the shoulder).

Agility Events

Obstacle Course
An individually timed event. Dogs maneuver jumps, tunnels and balance beam. The dog completing the course in the fastest time wins.

Monday Morning Obstacles
Individually timed event. Dogs must maneuver through several obstacles and then get dressed for the day by their handler before crossing the finish line.

Catch Events

Tidbit Catch
A group event. Dogs catch thrown treats from progressively further distances. Tidbits will be provided, or handler may provide their own.

Frisbee Catch
An individual event. Dogs earn points for distance and number of feet that leave the ground during the catch.

Toy Catch
An individually timed event. Dog is scored on how many catches made in 30 seconds. Items may be supplied by handler.

Obedience Events

Home Run Commands
An individually timed event. Dog and handler must run the bases, stopping to successfully perform a command before proceeding on to the next base. Commands may be repeated, although not consecutively. For example, you may ask your dog to sit at first base and third base, but must ask a different command at second base and home plate. The dog getting around the bases (including home plate) in the fastest time is the winner.

Down on Recall
An individual event. The dog is called to “come”, then given a “down” command during the return. The dog stopping in a down position with his front toes nearest the line without going over wins. If all dogs cross the line, the dog closest to the line wins.

Marathon Down
A group event. Dogs are placed on a down-stay with heavy distraction. The last dog to break his stay wins. Handler will start 6 feet away from the dog and may be asked to back away as part of the distractions.

Other Events

Best Trick
With the audience’s help, Judge decides which trick is “best”. [Also used as a tie breaker for the pentathlon levels]
