LAPP Rules for Therapy Visits

At every LAPP event:

Handler

Purple LAPP Shirts are required unless your facility has a specific uniform they require you to wear.

Delta or TDInc. Badges are required.  If your facility has other required identification make sure to wear that as well.

Remember you are representing LAPP and Delta or TDInc. No alcohol or drugs are allowed.  Others may overhear a conversation so keep your language clean too.

No harsh corrections.  Anticipate your dog’s behavior and head things off before they become a problem.

Collars and Leashes

Make sure your collars and leashes and are clean. Many teams have dedicated collars and leashes that they wear on therapy visits.

Baths

Follow the requirements of your facility if they specify frequency of bathing.  The Hospitals may require a bath within the 24 hours prior to a visit.  Bi-weekly baths are not excessive for most dogs.  Waterless shampoo is sometimes a good option and will leave your dog smelling sweet.  Nails should be trimmed frequently so as not to scratch a client.

Meet and Greets

Meet and greets are held outside if possible, 15 minutes before events.  Please take that time to socialize yourself and your pet partner.  Once the event starts, you are working and no further dog-dog interactions are allowed until the event is over.

Sick Animals

If your animal is sick or injured they should not participate in LAPP functions.  That includes cut pads, vomiting and diarrhea.
